Dubai, Oct 20 (Emirates 24|7): The UAE’s top court has rejected a plea by a sacked Federal employee to reinstate him to his job, saying employers can terminate the services of their staff who are absent from work for 10 consecutive days without a good reason.
The Federal Supreme Court upheld earlier rulings by lower courts and told the unnamed plaintiff that his department has the right to sack him after he stayed off his job for 10 consecutive days without giving a good reason for his absence.
The court made clear that the sacking was in line with the federal law, which authorises employers to end the service of any employee found to have been absent from work for 10 consecutive days or 20 separate days through the year without a good reason.
“The employee has demanded reinstatement to his job on the grounds the decision to end his service was arbitrary and illegal, but the court rejected his pleas and decided that the measures taken by the employers were lawful,” the Arabic language daily Emarat Al Youm said without specifying that department.
