Mangalore, Oct 20: “Shibaje in Beltangady taluk is an interior village with no proper roads or public facilities and a few miscreants have been creating problems overthe past one-and-a-half month and the police have not been paying any heed,” said Madhav Gowda, member, Gowda Samaj, addressing the media at the press club on Saturday October 19.
It has been learnt that over the past 45 days, around 15 FIRs have been registered but no action has been taken against the culprits. Cases of robbery, murder, assault, and violence against women and Dalits has also been brought to the notice of the authorities. But the law and order situation at Shibaje has been disrupted.
As per the members of the Gowda Samaj committee, three robberies, two attacks on the Dalit community, and an attack on a government officer on duty, have been cited. There have been six cases of murder out of which only two are under investigation and a number of such incidents were also reported.
According to members there are a few influential people who are involved in these cases, namely Ullahan, Mathew, M V Paili and his son Baisil, C Joe, Raju, Lizi, Reena Manoj, Johnson and Kuria Kosu.
In addition to this, renowned advocates such as Jayaraja, Kishore Kumar, and corporator Vinay Raj have been using their political clout and monetary power for suppressing the residents of Shibaje.
Madhav Gowda said, “The culprits roam around carrying knives disrupting holy places like temples and churches. The common man has become helpless and we suspect the police are also involved.”
Gowda Samaj committee and the other representatives confirmed that if no action is taken within a week, a protest will be conducted in front of Uppinangady police station; and even then if no action is taken, the residents of Beltangady taluk have warned that they will take matters in their hands.
