Panaji, Oct 17 (IANS): Senior BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu questioned Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's constant tom-tomming of the Bharat Nirmaan campaign, and asked what the Nehru clan had done for the country, despite being in power for generations.
"Why is he going on with Bharat Nirmaan all the time? What has the Nehru dynasty done all these years? What has his grandfather done? What has his mother done" Naidu asked, while speaking to reporters at the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters here.
The senior BJP leader was responding to questions about Gandhi and the impact of the Bharat Nirmaan campaign which was launched by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government to publicise the central government's achievements.
Rahul Gandhi is the great-grandson of India's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, grandson of former prime minister Indira Gandhi. His father Rajiv Gandhi too served as the prime minister, while his mother Sonia Gandhi is the president of the Congress party.
Naidu is in Goa for a stock-taking meeting on the BJP's preparation for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
Venkiah Naidu, a former BJP president, said the UPA government, in its first stint in power, had reaped the benefits of good governance of the previous BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.
The real face and "achievements" of the UPA could be seen in its second stint that began 2009, Naidu said, drawing attention to the scams which have rocked the government. Even the office of the prime minister has not been above the scams, Naidu said.
