Mumbai, Mar 17: Continuing with its upward trend, the Sensex shot up by nearly 75 points to hit a new intra-day high of 10,951.38 points in early trade on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Friday on sustained buying by foreign and domestic funds.
The BSE index, which had closed at 10,876.74 points, opened significantly higher at 10,902.26 points and rallied to 10,951.38 points, a rise of 74.64 points.
Similarly, the Nifty index on the National Stock Exchange soared to a new high of 3,249.10 points from yesterday's close of 3,226.60 points.
The major gainers were ONGC, Tata Consultancy, Larsen and Toubro, Tata Motors, Wipro, Infosys Technologies, Dr Reddy's Lab, Cipla, Reliance Industries, State Bank of India and Satyam Computers.
