Tehran, Oct 16 (IANS): Iran and Britain have agreed to appoint charge d'affaires within the next two weeks, Xinhua reported Wednesday citing the official IRNA news agency.
The agreement was reached between Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi and his British counterpart Simon Gass in Geneva.
The Iranian foreign ministry Oct 8 said the two countries had agreed to appoint a non-resident charge d'affaires in an attempt to resume bilateral ties.
In November 2011, thousands of Iranian demonstrators broke into two British embassy compounds following Iran's decision to downgrade its diplomatic ties with Britain in response to London's financial sanctions against Tehran.
Britain then shut down its embassy in Tehran and ordered the immediate closure of the Iranian embassy in London.
