Ranchi, Oct 15 (IANS): Cyclone Phailin claimed four lives in Jharkhand, said an official Tuesday.
According to a government official, three people died in Bokaro and one in Ramgarh.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren held a high-level meeting Tuesday and directed officials to give compensation to the kin of the dead within 24 hours. Chief secretary R.S. Sharma, principal secretary of CM Sukhdeo Singh, and disaster management secretary Arun Singh, among others, attended the meeting.
Soren also directed officials to immediately restore power supply in the affected areas.
Heavy rains lashed Jharkhand due to Phailin's impact. More than 100 huts were destroyed in Pakur, West Singhbhum and other districts of the state. Due to torrential rains, water gushed into houses in low-lying areas of Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bokaro and other parts of the state.
