Seven killed in Nigeria road crash

Abuja, Oct 15 (IANS): At least seven people were killed and 11 other wounded in a road accident in northern Nigeria, a road safety official said Monday.

An 18-seat Mazda bus and a fuel tanker collided at Dogon Hauwa Village, 14 km away from Birnin Gwari local government area in Kaduna state, according to Mike Olagunji, sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Nigeria, Xinhua reported.

He said five of the victims were burnt beyond recognition and two others died from the injuries they sustained.

The injured were rushed to a nearby health facility run by the state, while the bodies of the seven deceased people were deposited in a morgue at the same hospital, he said.

The official attributed the accident to overspeeding, noting the bus rammed into the tanker when the driver lost control trying to avoid a pot hole. The two vehicles instantly caught fire.
