Worms found in sandwich served on Air India flight

New Delhi, Oct 14 (PTI): An Air India flier got the shock of his life when he found worms in the sandwich served to him on a New York-Delhi flight.

The incident occurred on Air India flight (AI102) with a Rajouri Garden resident who asked for a sandwich and was served an infested one, sources said.

He complained with Air India authorities at the airport after arriving in Delhi on September 28, but claimed to have not received a response for a fortnight about the action taken in that regard.

When asked, an Air India spokesperson said that "suitable action had already been taken against the caterer".

He termed the incident as "very rare" and said, "We get our food prepared by the best caterers under very hygienic conditions", adding that Air India follows the "strictest procedure" for selecting a caterer.

Worm in sandwich and fungus coated sandwich is common, secondly air India practices another violation it increases the temperature in cabins while flying to avoid giving out blankets. The temperature should be 16 degree Celsius but very of maintained at 23 degree Celsius. Air India should be handed over to the TATAS.

I travelled many times with AI.and to tellyou the truth is not my favourit.Preveously it was the best. But the last some years the Service towards customers was not very good.Leaving aside the Services, here the Sandwich case ,I find we cant blame the air India in the whole. They cant check each and every Sandwich. But atleast they could have taken the complain seriously and could give some compansation ,so that he could travel with them again.sure he will never travel with AI.again.The passenger should complain in USA.in the court,so that the Catering People will be taken into Task .with air india may not work much. They will go Forwards I am sure.with other aviations also at present Food is not the best except gulf or the other air crafts.

Looking at the routing (New York - New Delhi), it is obvious, the food was supplied by a New York Caterer. Air India must sack this company and sue them for this utter negligence. Why blame Air India alone? No airline can open each pack and see if there are worms inside. For sure, Air India must employ their own Quality control Rep and randomly inspect the facility and Food provided by their Caterers.

This is actually a secret marketing research done by BJPwallahs. Now that beef is banned in most of india, the BJP wants to know how many indians are ready to eat worm sandwich, because food inflation is set to soar in the next few years, even if Namo wins election or not.

Every rule has an exception. So many comments which are against Air India Express. I travel very often by Air India and i never faced any problems. Food is very little and some time they serve food which is not our favorite but not to forget this is a budgeted flight.

Further, how many passengers have bad experience in the flight? Comments say that flight is not good but can you share your bad experience while travelling in Air India and what is good in other flights???

All the more reason now for us not to fly Air India even if offered a 50 percent discount. The food is bad, the air hostesses very ugly and with an attitude and toilets even worse. I believe they don't even pay their staff on time. Goodbye and goodluck Air India.

Worm or no worm people never stop travelling with Air India and Air India will never learn from such incidents. I have travelled with Air India and Air India express at least from four gulf countries and our 'beloved' airlines is never short of passengers.I have seen people using abusive language for this airlines and when it is time for vacation they prefer none other than Air India!

Sorry Mr.Pinto - I totally disagree with your statement. It's not people love to travel - people are forced to travel because Air India has maintained it's monopoly to Mangalore specially for direct flights from Gulf Countries. There's no alternative.

The only other airline with a direct flight to Mangalore is Jet Airways from Dubai.

I hope and wish the Etihad-Jet deal provides for a direct flight to Mangalore from Abu Dhabi.

The last time I flew in Air India from Abu Dhabi Via Muscat - the landing in Muscat was a nightmare. I could hear one of the passenger disembarking in Muscat speak over the phone and say in Tulu 'badkiya'. As the flight doors opened - the smell of the burning rubber (likely from the tires) filled up the whole flight.

I myself was like...Wish I had another option to fly.

It's my suggestion to the flier that he should sue AI immediately for
defficiency is service. When charging the fare there is no mercy or dicount for seniors, at the last moment if someone wants to fly they charge absorbitent charges. They do not care for customer comfort, if we want to cancel the ticket, we have to pay penalty, why can't they give the seat to somebody else, if we want to postpone or prepone again we have to pay heavy penalty, is it justice, if one postpones or prepones what the airline loses, ticket is already booked and the airline is making money in terms of interest, why they are so merciless, aviation ministry should look into this matter and change the laws, in a situation like this why the flier should be merciful to AI he should sue them immediately in the consumer court and ask
for compensation for negligence of duty and poor service.
I am a globe trotter and travelled extensively, normally when a sandwich is given in a sophisticated box nobody normally bothers to open and see the contents inside it, I appreciate this flier, and in the future I will definitely check my food before I eat.My dear, just hearing explanation is not enough, file case.

It is a big setback and shame to Air India. Govt should slap Air India with Violation and Penalty. Air India will easily lose International Passengers going forward. No matter what Air India says, very rare & strict hygienic, they are trying to cover their !!
