Ahmedabad, Oct 13 (IE): The first batch of Goa police officers will arrive in Gujarat within the next two weeks for training as sub-inspectors at the Gujarat Police Training Academy in Gandhinagar.

This would be the first time that any police department from outside the state has approached Gujarat Police to train its officers.

Around 104 candidates, selected recently for the rank of sub-inspectors in Panaji, Goa, will receive their training here. These policemen from Goa would train with a batch of 500 recently recruited SIs in Gujarat at the GPA at Karai in Gandhinagar.

Goa is more of a tourism-driven state, and unlike Gujarat it does not follow an anti-drinking law. So the training of the two groups will have some nuances.

The batch of 500 SIs from Gujarat will also include candidates selected for CID (Intelligence).

"The Goa police approached us a few months ago, and expressed interest in sending their policemen for training in Gujarat. They were impressed with the enthusiasm of the youth from the state in joining the police force. They have appreciated our training models that prepare an officer to deal with all eventualities, particularly our emphasis on imparting technical knowledge in the new blood," DGP (in-charge) Pramod Kumar said.

The training module of sub-inspectors includes a period of one year of indoor theoretical training in classrooms, in which rookie SIs are taught the basics of the Indian Penal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure, the two basic lessons in law that all police officers are required to learn.

In the event of a crime being committed, sub-inspectors are usually the first officers to be sent to the scene from the police station. He is accompanied by constables, but it is the SI who has to head the task of collecting primary information.

So an SI's training includes basics of a first information report (FIR), collection of evidence, recording of panchnama, ways of investigation, assistance in investigation, wireless communication and various methods of technologies used by the police department.
