Assembly elections upset WEF schedule in Kochi

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 10 ( IANS): The announcement of assembly elections in five states has upset the World Economic Forum-India schedule Nov 8 to 9 at Kochi.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told reporters Thursday that the organisers had agreed to hold the the meet at Kochi, but now with the code of conduct for the assembly elections in force it has been cancelled.

"Scheduled to take part were top political leaders of the country and with the code of conduct in place, they will not be able to say anything, and hence it will not be held here and has been cancelled," said Chandy.

India has hosted the event 28 times in the past, out of which Mumbai hosted it once while Delhi played the host on all other occasions.

Around 250 top notch business honchos, leading NGOs and top political leaders were expected to attend the event.
