Kabul, Oct 10 (IANS): Ten militants were killed in two separate incidents in Afghanistan overnight, sources said Thursday.
"The militants launched an attack on security checkposts in Balamurghab district of western Badghis province. The Afghan local police personnel repelled the attack, killing six insurgents," provincial Governor Ahmadullah Alizai told Xinhua.
One policeman was also injured in the clash, he added.
In addition, four Taliban were killed in a premature explosion in eastern Kunar province.
"Four militants took position on a hill to launch a mortar attack on an army base in Asmar district but their mortar rounds exploded prematurely, killing all on the spot," army spokesman Haroon Yousufzai told Xinhua.
Earlier Thursday, two employees of the National Solidarity Programme (NSP) were killed in a bomb attack and shooting in Deh Rawood district of southern Uruzgan province, provincial government spokesman Abdullah Hemat confirmed.
NSP is an official initiative aimed at rehabilitating and developing far-flung villages in the war-torn country.
