Parrikar may give ministers more work next week

Panaji, Oct 6 (IANS): Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar might allot additional portfolios to 11 minister in the BJP-led coalition government early next week, a senior official said.

An official close to the chief minister said this was in tune with the promise Parrikar made to his cabinet.

"It will not be a ceremonial affair, since no new minister is being sworn in," he added.

Earlier, the chief minister had said allocation of additional portfolios would be done before the assembly session, which begins October 9.

The portfolios would be given on the basis of ministers' performance, added Parrikar.

After the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led government came to power in March 2012, Parrikar had allotted two portfolios to each minister, retaining many with himself.
