Dubai, March 9: Happy faces, smiling women, radiant achievers  - that was the feeling one could witness while entering the Sheikh Rashid Auditorium today – 8th of March - INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY  - the special day marked by the UNO to honour those women all around the world working selflessly towards community service and making a difference to society.

It is an great honour for daijiworld.com as editor of Women Vision column is choosen for the award among the 50 women from all nationalities living in the UAE.
 
50 eminent women from all walks of life from around the UAE were specially chosen to be awarded the “Excellence Awards 2006” by the Dhwani Event Managerment, a premier organization working for the welfare of women.

M. G. Uma Managing Director of Dhwani group of Institution is the brain behind this dynamic organization who herself is an achiever is more ways than one.  She  felt the need to bring to limelight the eminent women who work silently without any remuneration or appreciation so that they can be an inspiration  for others to follow in their footsteps. A truly inspired women is an empowered women and if one is focused and committed and ready to trod the path of struggles and hurdles – success will surely not evade them.
 
The Chief Guests for the day’s function were Laila Ahmed Al Zawadi, Director, Arts & Cultural Dept. Ministry of Education and Faisa Mooza, Criminal Lawyer Abu Dhabi along with other dignatories and guests of honour. They  inaugurated the function by lighting the traditional lamp.  The Chief Guests who are UAE  locals expressed their happiness and honour in having the privilege to be giving away the awards to women who made a significant change to society.


Amongst the 50 awardees were Patricia Serrao, Amala Maria Isabella Quadros, Josefa Miranda, Kalpana Rao, Mumzy Ameen Merchant, Monica Jaffer, Savithri Gowda and Elaine Fernandes who were awarded this honour for their zealous and selfless work towards society –  to women in particular.

Elaine Fernandes is the editor of popular 'Women Vision' on daijiworld.com. The column started on  March 8, 2003, incidentally on International Women's has has been one of popular and most read columns on daijiworld.

Amala Quadros, a qualified beautician was also featured on daijiworld.com in the year 2003 has been answering the beauty related queries for daijiworld.com readers.

The hall was filled to its capacity by the family friends and wellwishers of the awardees and it was surely a testimony that they all were happy that International Day gave an opportunity for women to be honoured.
 
Media persons and the Press were present from various channels and newspapers to cover the event which is being held for the 5th consecutive year.
 
Women awardee while receiving this award - felt honoured and charged with more zest and a feeling - that this was just the "beginning" of working harder, better and more committed to changing women's status in society. While on  one side it was a day for celebration, one could not help recalling the crimes on women, female infanticide, rapes, that are still rampant and need to be addressed on  a stronger footing.
 
"Forget your differences and share your experiences" was the wonderful remark made in the report by Ranjini Murthy on the 96th anniversary of International Women's Day which started in 1910. Let this be a message to women all over the world.
