Hyderabad, Oct 3 (IANS): Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha Thursday said the union cabinet's decision to carve out separate Telangana state is a victory of Telangana people.
Rajanarasimha also described it as the victory of Congress and the victory of truth. He thanked Congress president Sonia Gandhi for keeping her promise to Telangana people.
"She recognized the sacrifices made by people of Telangana... she has done justice. The people of Telangana will always be grateful to her," he told reporters Thursday night.
The deputy chief minister said though passing of a resolution by the state assembly is not mandatory for formation of new state, he was confident that the resolution would be passed.
He assured people of Seemandhra living in Hyderabad that they can continue to live here like people of Telangana without any apprehensions. He said issues like sharing of water, electricity and education and can be solved amicably through talks.
Congress MP from Nizamabad, Madhu Yaskhi also hailed the cabinet decision. He said the government had fulfilled the dream of Telangana people.
He said central ministers and MPs from Seemandhra tried to blackmail the Congress leadership but Gandhi refused to go back on her word. He said people of Seemandhra living in Hyderabad can continue to live here without any fear or apprehension.
