Mangalore: Konkani Natak Sabha marks 70th year with 'Ootre Uzwadle' play

Mangalore, Sep 30: Stepping into its 70th year, Konkani Natak Sabha commemorated the special occasion with the presentation of ‘Ootre Uzwadle’ (Wake up, its dawn), a social comedy play in the decades-old Don Bosco Hall here on Sunday September 29.
The play has been directed by Dolla Mangalore, co-directed by Claud D'Souza, with script by Pradeep Barboza, Palladka and music by Nellu Permannur.
Popular actors of Mangalore were part of the cast. The play dealt with the confusions and complications in a family with the use of satirical verses. The jam-packed venue was thoroughly entertained.
Earlier, during the stage programme, Roy Castelino, president, Konkani Prachar Sanchalan, was the chief guest. In his short address, he said that the organizers should also include actors of other religions whose mother tongue is Konkani. “If this is achieved, then there is justice to the language of Konkani,” he said. He hoped that in the next five years this would happen. “When you celebrate the 75th year, let it be a reality,” said Castelino.
John A Pereira, Bejai, was felicitated for his contribution to the arts. Dolla Mangalore also received honors.
President of the organization Fr Cyprian Peter D’Souza welcome while treasurer Prem Kumar proposed the vote of thanks. Secretary Sunil Menezes presented the annual report.
