Kandahar, Sep 26 (IANS): Four Afghan civilians were killed Wednesday night in a bombing in the southern province of Kandahar, Xinhua reported citing a local source Thursday.
"A roadside bomb planted by the militants struck a sedan in Sinzar village of Zharay district Wednesday night, killing all four men aboard the vehicle," district governor Jamal Aqha told Xinhua, adding they were travelling to provincial capital Kandahar.
The bodies of the victims were shifted to the village by locals and police, he noted.
Taliban militants often attack Afghan forces and foreign troops using roadside bombs but the lethal weapons also inflict casualties on civilians.
More than 1,300 Afghan civilians were killed and over 2,500 injured in conflict-related violence in the first half of this year, according to UN sources.
