Bhopal, Sep 26 (HT): Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh’s claim that BJP had ordered 10,000 burqas for its workers so that it could claim support of Muslim women cast its shadow on the party’s massive election rally in Bhopal on Wednesday.
The BJP volunteers regulating the crowd at Jamboree Ground did not allow burqa-clad to enter the venue.
Zahida Begum, a BJP worker, said about 5,000 Muslim workers who had come for the rally from various parts of Bhopal were stopped at the entrance gate.
She said even the police threatened Muslim women with arrest if they tried to force their entry into the ground.
"It seemed they were deliberately not allowing any Muslim to enter,” she said.
Saheba of Tilajamalpura said, “Around 15 buses carrying Muslim female supporters of BJP came to attend the programme from various parts of Bhopal. All of us wanted to hear chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's speech but we didn't expect that we would not be allowed to go inside.”
