Bhubaneswar, Sep 25 (IANS): Ten more students in Odisha fell ill Wednesday after consuming iron supplements, a day after 113 students of another school were hospitalised for consuming the iron pills.
Students of a government-run upper primary school at Jenapali in Bolangir district, about 350 km from the state capital Bhubaneswar allegedly developed vomiting tendencies and complained of acute stomach pain after taking the tablets.
They were immediately shifted to the district government hospital. All of them are out of danger, a senior district health official told IANS. "We have collected the samples of the tablets for further examination," he said.
The incident comes after at least 113 students of a school in Puri district fell ill Tuesday after consuming similar supplements.
The students of the Upper Grade Middle English School at Gopinathpur, about 70 km from Bhubaneswar, fell ill after they consumed the supplements on empty stomachs.
It was not clear whether the students in Bolangir district consumed the pills on empty stomachs.
The state government has been providing iron and folic acid supplements to school children as part of its initiative to arrest anaemia instances among the young population.
