Decomposed whale carcass buried on Goa beach

Panaji, Sep 21 (IANS): A giant, decomposed whale carcass which had washed ashore at a south Goa beach has been buried in the sand there, officials said Saturday

The highly decomposed carcass had floated from the sea to the Galgibag beach, located 80 km south of Panaji and had been spotted by fishermen late Friday as it came towards the beach famous as a tourist spot.

Speaking to IANS, Kashi Pingulkar, a range forest officer, said that the carcass was in the process of disintegrating and that the giant mammal's internal organs had scattered on the beach and had kept tourists at bay.

"We have buried the entire carcass which was around 17m long. We cannot identify the reasons for its death but the stage of decomposition is very extreme. Maybe two weeks," the forest official said.
