Mangalore, Sep 21: In an unfortunate mishap, a group of curious students allegedly stole sodium from the school laboratory and tried experimenting with it outside the lab, resulting in one boy injuring his eye.
The incident took place in St Rita Higher Primary School, Jeppu.
The boy who damaged his eye was Amog G (12), son of Ashok and Asha, studying in class 7.
The incident took place on September 16 and he was later admitted to a private hospital in the city. The boy has now recovered from his injuries.
"After class in the evening, when I was going home from school, two of my friends called me and took me near the school toilet. Over there, they kept sodium stolen from the laboratory on floor and asked me to pour water on it. I was not aware what would happen, and did as they said. As soon as I poured water, due to the reaction, my eye was damaged," said Amog.
As per Amog’s father Ashok, the students were trying to experiment with the sodium, imitating what they had seen being done in an IPL match on TV.
Amog has now recovered 80% from the injury and the doctor has advised him two weeks of rest, Ashok added.
