Mumbai, Feb 15:  The members of Daya Nayak Abhimani Balaga (Daya Nayak Admirers' Club) and Mulund Friends jointly held a meeting in the Dr Visweswaraya auditorium at Matunga here on Thursday to discuss the implications of the inquiry that is being held against him.

Several public figures placed their opinions on the subject. Chandrashekar Pallethaadi, editor, Karnataka Malla said he would harshly condemn any killing by the police, but the system had already come to terms with the elimination of anti-social elements. If one Daya Nayak could pile up in lacs, what could be the earnings of the government or other people in power, he sought to know. Daya Nayak's social concern has been his hallmark, he added..

Advocate Subhash B Shetty, presided over the meet.

Karnataka's former police inspector Girish Mattennavar said that Daya had been a police officer, who has fought for the nation. The current problems faced by him are a result of an organized conspiracy by the mafia. If Daya wanted to pile up money, he would have adopted underhand means like extortion. Instead of promoting live bands etc. he has done a noble job of building a school for poor children in his native village. It is easy to frame a patriot in a conspiracy. Keeping this in mind, the Karnataka High Court lawyers have come forward to fight Daya’s case without accepting any money, he added.

Present on the dais were Sadananda D Nayak, B S Kurkal, Dr Sanjeeva Shetty, Ashok Pakkala, B R Poonja, judge Kishore Shetty, Nanda Shetty Kalyan, Madhava Prabhu, C K Salian, Shankar Shetty, Harish Shetty, Gayatri Wagle, Ajekar Balakrishna Shetty, S T Vijay Kumar, Nitish Shetty, Ramakanth Prabhu and Suresh Shetty Yeyyadi, president, Mulund Friends’.

The convener of the meet, Vithal N Prabhu said that Nayak had completed a selfless mission of providing education. He had also made the bidi-rolling to handle pen and pencil, so he deserved justice and fair chance. All right-thinking people should take steps towards ensuring justice to him, he said.

Inland letters were distributed to the large gathering present, with a request to write mass appeal to the President to grant justice to Daya nayak.

Prior to the meet, people held placards and shouted slogans in favour of Daya Nayak.

A prayer was conducted by Jyoti Vittal, Anita Prabhu and Shanti K.  Rahim Uchil compered the programme while Suresh Shetty Yeyyadi gave the vote of thanks.
