Mangalore, Feb 17: The St Aloysius Industrial Training Institute (ITI) started in 1981 as a centenary project of St Aloysius College will be celebrating its silver jubilee between February 21 and 23.

Briefing the press on the event St Aloysius Institutions Rector Fr Francis Serrao on Thursday said that the ITI was opened with the objective of imparting training in technical trade to boys who were intellectually backward but were skilful with their hands.

    

The institute, which in its earlier years offered only three courses (carpentry, plumbing and tailoring) of one year duration presently, offers courses in welding, electronics and electrical wiring courses, refrigeration and air-conditioning, mechanic motor vehicle and computer operator courses.

Kaushalya 2006, a technical exhibition will be organized as part of the silver jubilee celebrations and will be inaugurated by deputy director Employment and Training Department B S Raghupathi, Bangalore on February 21 at 9.30 am.

Founder Chairman of the Karavali Group of Colleges S Ganesh Rao will be the guest of honour and Fr Francis Serrao will preside over the programme.

The valedictory programme will begin on February 23 at 4 pm in which Employment & Training (Mysore Division) Joint Director Shivalinga Moorthy will be the chief guest.
To mark the event, the ITI will bring out a souvenir and a news bulletin 'Kaushalya.'

About 3,000 students have graduated in the past 25 years, of whom about 305 are self-employed and others are employed in various companies in India and in Gulf countries, Fr Serrao, adding that this year, there are 192 students, of whom 14 are girls.
