Mangalore, Sep 6: The ABVP activists staged a protest in front of Taluk panchayat office to improve conditions of SC/ST/OBC hostels, here on Friday September 6.
Addressing the protestors, Mahipal said that students at SC/ST hostel face many problems. One of the SC/ST hostels at Pumpwell looks similar to a garage. Adding to that, the food given, maintenance of the hostel is very poor.
“No MLAs, ministers respond to our problems. None of them visited the hostel, he said blaming previous and present government responsible for the condition. Our protest will continue, until MLA J R Lobo responds to our problems,” he added.
Below are among the few demands made by ABVP
• Food allowance per student should be increased from Rs 850 to Rs 1,500.
• Elected representative should visit the hostel at least once a month and interact with students.
• Proper security should be given at ladies hostel
• Medical checkup once a month.
• Reading room should be built in every hostel with all the necessary facilities
• Scholarship to students
• Strict measures to prevent ragging and corruption in hostels
ABVP leaders Harish, Devendra Kumar, Chethan, Nithin, Agneya, Shyamprasad among others were present.
