Udupi: High court stays govt order to dissolve Kodavoor temple committee

Udupi, Aug 31: The Karnataka high court has ordered a stay on government's move to terminate the management committee of Kodavoor Mahathobara Shree Shankaranarayana Temple.

The state government had earlier ordered termination of the management committee of the Temple and those of several other temples in a bid to take over their administration.

However, the Kodavoor Temple committee filed a case in the high court questioning the government's move.

The court issued a stay order on the decision of the government, stated a press release issued by T Raghvendra Rao, managing trustee of the Temple.

    I am astounded by the action by the government to take over the Kodavoor temple. I am wondering if any reason has been given for such a move. It must be the duty of any government to encourage and assist the local communities to manage their own places of worship. Politics should have no part to play in such matters unless there is an evidence of mismanagement and fraud. I was born in Kodavoor and spent my childhood there and I have sweet memories of the local nature of the temple. I will be very sad if the temple ends up in the hands of the politicians with little credibility. I hope the local community will unite and successfully fight this dastardly move by the politicians.

    Each Temple should be managed by local people & people directly/indirectly related to temple including priests, & not by govt.officials. In most cases govt.officials totaly do not have sufficient knowledge about temple, & routine work will be in trouble. In some case if the official has greed for money, the problem aggrevates. Relegious belief & faith is left to devotees & it is not a government problem, so solution should be left to devotees-locals-priests & concerned people.

    Temple, church and Durga management committe should be managed by local people only because. they know the place since thier childhood and some temples are managed by thier ancisters too. If govenment takes over,for example Kodavooru temple, some utive officer from Bidar may come. he does not know the local taste and rituals. He may work according to the law laid by governement. Friends, highcourt has taken very good action I I bileve supreme court also uphold this decision.

    Whatever the decision of Govt or High court I love this Temple. During my childhood days in Kodavoor School atleast once in a month I used to visit and enjoy THERU and LAKSHADEEPA Habba.
