Mangalore, Aug 30: A group of 50 people, allegedly Bajrang Dal activists created havoc at Kumpala Balakrishna Mandir and market area with the possession of lethal weapons. They pelted bottles on houses, shops and also attacked a Hindu Jagrana Vedike activist.
Sources say that after attacking the alleged HJV activist, they also charred his car.
On August 30 at midnight, a group of 50 Bajrang Dal activists from Kumpala area damaged banners and cut-outs near Balakrishna Mandir. On hearing the noise, Praveen, a nearby resident who knew the youth came out of his house and warned them not to create any disturbance in the area.
Angered by this, the Bajrang Dal activists threw bottles at his house and as a result, valuables in the house were damaged. Praveen’s son was also injured during the incident.
Meanwhile, HJV activist Pakku alias Prakash was travelling on the same route. He was intervened by Bajrang Dal and was brutally attacked. They also toppled his car and set fire leaving the car completely damaged.
Prakash who was critically injured during the attack went in search of help to a house nearby belonging to Manohar. The attackers again followed him and attacked a woman named Kumuda who had arrived on the scene to help.
Prakash soon managed to escape from there and entered a house belonging to Yashoda Gatti. The attackers who were still on his trail attacked him again with soda bottles. He sustained serious injuries during this attack.
As soon as locals started gathering in the area, the attackers fled from the spot. The injured were soon rushed to a Deralakatte hospital.
Grudge of Mosaru Kudike
On Wednesday August 28, during the Mosaru Kudike procession, in one of the tableaux belonging to HJV, two of the children dressed in a tiger dance attire were slapped by Bajrang Dal members. Angered by this, HJV activists had a tiff with Bajrang Dal activists which soon calmed down.
Sources have stated that on Thursday August 29, under the guidance of Bajrang Dal activist Kunta Ganesh, members Santhu, Sandeep, Prashant, Shashi, Manish, Sanketh, Duggu, Dhanraj, Ranga Ganesh, Lailu, Jayaraj along with others took revenge of the fight.
Fight under drunken stupor
During the Mosaru Kudike festivities in Thokottu, the attackers who were celebrating got drunk and in the drunken stupor tried to take revenge by attacking HJV members. It is also learnt that, there have been frequent clashes between the two groups.
After the incident, tight security was deployed in the area by the Ullal police. ACP Jagadish also visited the spot.
It is also learnt that some miscreants who arrived on bikes pelted stones over the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation bus near Nithyanda Nagar. It is learnt that the bus had changed its usual route and was plying to Kasargod via Kinya . Police have filed a case. The reason is still not known.
