Beltangady, Aug 29:
A post card campaign was started by Chiranjeevi Yuvaka Mandala Kanarpa and Kadirudyavara villagers at Kanarpa on Wednesday August 28 regarding Yettinahole project.

The post card movement was inaugurated by Laxmi Machina, senior reporter with Kannada daily. Diversion of Netravati is being set in motion after naming it as Yettinahole project, he said.

If Yettinahole project is the first stage, the process of making the water flow towards the Western ghats is second stage. The government is prepared to spend Rs 9,000 crores for the project.

The government has started to convert the district into a graveyard with projects such as Niddodi thermal power plant and Netravati river diversion.  If we do not protest now itself, our lives will be miserable, he said.

Contractor Narayana Gowda Devasya spoke and said it is not Yettinahole, but Netravati is a Muttinahole (a lake of pearls) for us. Nobody should disturb it. The question of land and water is a question of life and death for us. A united protest is essential, he said.

Mithabagilu grama panchayat members Nemiraja Gowda and Devaki, Yuvaka mandala’s president Ramachandra Gowda, convenor K Jayaraj Salian, Sri Kshetra grama project’s Pragatibandhu Union’s president Obayya Gowda, Youth Mandala’s Giriappa Gowda, Mohana Gowda Bayaru among were present.
