Udupi, Aug 28: A record was created when more than 600 children participated in ‘Muddu Krishna’ competitions wearing traditional Krishna costumes at Udupi Krishna Temple on Wednesday August 28.
It was tremendous as always to see a large number of devotees waiting in front of the entrance to visit Lord Krishna at the math and temple.
There were prayers offered to the deity throughout the day. There was a long queue of devotees near the entrance of the temple.
Sri Vishwavallabha Teertha Swami of Paryaya Sode Math participated in the rituals. There were various rituals connected to ‘Janmashtami’ performed on the temple premises.
The Muddu Krishna competition took place in different segments—one for age till 2, another between 2 to 4, and finally 4 to 6—where children sport the costumes of Lord Krishna as Lord Balakrishna, was held at Badagumalige and Rajangana.
The auditorium at the Rajangana was filled to capacity.
Murali Kadekar, the programme co-ordinator, was very happy with the number of children attending the Muddu Krishna competition. He said, “It is the support of the Sode Swami that more and more children of Udupi have registered for the competition,” he added.
There were colourful “Huli Vesha” dancers all around the city performing their high-energy dancing. Car Street was colourfully decked as also the ‘Ashta Maths’ with flower sellers dotting the pathway to
the temple.
