Kundapur, Aug 28: A man died after he fell under a running train near Katbelttur Kanyana in Hemmadi on Monday August 26 night. The incident came to light on Tuesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Shankar Shetty (55), from Hosanagar in Thekatte-Ultoor.
It is said that Shankar Shetty was staying at his wife's place at Bandadi in Kanyana for the past few months. It is suspected that Shetty who was an alcohol might have slipped and fallen under the running train in an inebriated state.
As per the information obtained, Shankar Shetty had two children from his first wife after which he left them and re-married.
Hand missing
Due to the speed of the train, the left hand of the deceased was flung and cut off. Even after continuous search by police and locals, it has not been found.
Humanity gesture from police
As it was difficult to bring the ambulance till the incident spot, Anappa and Raju from Kundapur police station carried the body for a distance of 1 km.
A case has been registered at Kundapur police station.
