Mangalore: Madrasa teacher arrested for sexually harassing 6-year-old

Mangalore, Aug 26: Konaje police on Sunday August 25 arrested a Madrasa teacher on charges of sexually harassing a minor girl, based on a complaint filed by the girl’s mother.
The arrested is identified as Abdul Khadar Yamani from Poyyatabailu. He used to allegedly sexually harass a 6-year-old girl from Boliyar.
Abdul was appointed at the Madrasa a few days before the beginning of Ramadan. He indulged in sexual harassment right from day one, said the girl. He also allegedly threatened and warned the girl not to inform others, hence the girl, frightened by his threats, remained silent.
However, the girl had told her classmates about the teacher's misconduct, and the school faculty came to know about it. When they questioned the girl, the incident came to light. The faculty soon informed the girl’s parents and in-charge of Juma Masjid.
A complaint was filed with women and child welfare department. As per their guidance, the girl’s mother filed a complaint with Konaje police. The police soon arrested Abdul and produced him in the court.
Police have received information that Abdul was also involved in sexual harassment incidents earlier too and cases were registered at Kannur and Poyyatabailu police stations. The court has sent him to judicial custody till September 6.
