Mangalore, Aug 25: Sherin D’Mello from Belman is more confident of becoming a Chartered Accountant (CA) now. Having scored 92 percent in PU and clearing the CPT exam in the first attempt, Sherin was more worried about bearing her educational expenses than preparing for the next stage of IPCC exams. However, thanks to the members of Emirates Paradela, UAE, and Samanvaya, Mangalore, she and many other students are now boldly smiling.
As part of the annual programme, Emirates Paradela, UAE, and Samanvaya, Mangalore, distributed scholarship amounting to Rs 3.50 lac to as many as 48 students at Samanvaya Hall, Urwa Store, recently.
Like Sherin, Nimpha Sequeira from Vittal is also trying for IPCC exams while simultaneously studying in Padua College. “I will give this money to my mother and get it back to pay the (IPCC) exam fees. Nishanth Miranda of St Raymonds College, Vamanjoor, says, “The money has raised my hopes of studying further”.
“Make the best use of the scholarships,” said Bejai corporator Lancelot Pinto to the beneficiaries during the stage programme. Besides, he expressed a deep sense of appreciation towards Emirates Paradela, UAE, and Samanvaya for undertaking such a noble cause.
In his presidential address, Bennet D’Mello reiterated to make use of the money only for educational purpose. “This is the hard earned money from the members of Emirates Paradela. Do not misuse it,” he stressed adding that scholarship distribution is one of the important programmes of the association.
In addition, he said that the association has been providing scholarships to students since 2006 with the sole intention of assisting in further studies. “Study hard and also show concern to other non-privileged students as you grow old,” he said.
“The choice of 48 students for availing scholarships is based on their financial status and merit. There are students from high school, pre-university, degree, nursing, and engineering colleges,” he further added.
Earlier, Fr Ronald Cutinha, director of Samanvaya, delivered a motivational talk. He spoke to the scholarship beneficiaries on the topic, ‘Skill and hard work to achieve success.’ The one hour talk included an audio-visual presentation too.
Michael D’Silva welcomed and Cedric Menezes, secretary, proposed the vote of thanks. Treasurer Gerald D’Mello and Emirates, UAE, members of the association Allan D’Mello, Andry D’Mello, Predita D’Mello, and Belinda D’Mello were present on the dais.
In addition, Rovin D’Souza, president, Bejai Paradela, Ranjan Pinto, Oswald Valento, and Raghu Pinto were also present on the occasion.
