Mangalore, Aug 24: ‘I-Cube’, an annual science fest was organized by ‘Deeksha’ in collaboration with Yenepoya PU College, here on Saturday August 24, at the Yenepoya PU College Campus, Jeppinamogaru.
The programme was inaugurated with the lighting of the auspicious lamp by M S Mudithaya, professor of Nitte, along with Farhad Yenepoya, MD, Yenepoya PU College, Ravi Prasad, dean, Manjunath, principal and student coordinators.
Speaking after the inaugural ceremony, M S Mudithaya urged the students to live with ideas, implement them and try to bring about changes. Earlier, economic capital was something that was very much important for an individual, but now it is the intellectual capital which really matters, he said.
“An illiterate is not the one who cannot read and write in this century, but it is the one who cannot learn and understand. Yesterdays ideas are not relevant today. Every new generation comes with new ideas, innovations and better knowledge as every individual is unique,” he said.
“It is the responsibility of the parents and teachers to create opportunities and encourage children to come up with their own ideology. World moves with ideas that are important, to make us move forward to attain success. Ideas alone are not enough, but their implementation is equally important,” he added.
'I-Cube' stands for 3 'I’s'- 'Imagine, Innovate and Integrate'. The fest has been organized with a view to provide opportunity for high school students to exhibit their talents. Students from various schools in the district actively took part in the day-long competition.
In his address, Farhad thanked Mudithaya for adding three more 'I’s' to ‘I-Cube’ making it 6I.
“The world is a classroom and there is no limit for learning. Creativity designs the future. We must dream and imagine and come up with ideas,” he said.
“India has utilized knowledge from abroad in the past, but now the nation is using its own original knowledge and thoughts,” he added.
Six different events were conducted during this fest namely- ‘Imagine’-'Pour thy Words' and 'Monalisa' were conducted; under ‘Innovate'- 'Brain Quake' and 'Eureka' were organized and under ‘Integrate’- 'Lift Kar-a-de' and 'Wires on Fire' were conducted.
The winners of the fest will be honoured with an overall championship trophy.
