Mangalore, Aug 24: A theft which took place in broad daylight at Bharathi Nagar near KSRTC bus stand in Bejai, thieves decamped with 40 grams of gold and other valuables, altogether worth Rs 1.25 lac from a house.
The theft comprised of 40 grams gold, Rs 5,000 cash and two mobile phones. The house was owned by Padmanab.
The thieves entered the house by breaking the rear ventilator rods and took away valuables from the cupboard. It is said that the keys were kept near cupboard, which was a welcome sign for the thieves and aided in the theft.
Padmanab is a contractor by profession, and was residing in a rented house at Bharathi Nagar. As there was a house warming function at one of the houses that he built, he was away from home in the afternoon. His wife was away on work and children were at school.
The incident of theft came to light when the family members came home at 5 pm. The thieves had messed up the belongings in the house.
A case has been registered at the Barke police station.
