Mangalore, Aug 22: The Akhila Bharatha Billawar Union in collaboration with Narayan Guru educational institutions observed the 159 birth anniversary of Brahmashree Narayan Guru at Narayan Guru College auditorium, Kudroli on Thursday August 22.
The celebration was inaugurated by MLA J R Lobo by lighting the traditional lamp.
Naveen Chandra D Suvarna, president of AKhila Bharatha Billawara Union presided over the function while University professor and student welfare officer Dr P L Dharama, Prajavani Mangalore Bureau Chief Balakrishna Puthige, Narayan Guru Educational institutions administrative officer K Balakrishna Gatti, Sumalatha N Suvarna among others were present.
Speaking after inauguration, J R Lobo said "Brahmashree Narayan Guru has worked a lot for social justice in this region, thus bringing social change. It is because of his contribution to mankind, people still remember him and called him as one of the great saints ever born."
Briefing further he said, "our life will not be successful if we do not respect the people around us and live in unity with people of all religion. Narayan treated all people equally and struggled for equality. It is not enough if we celebrated his birth day, instead we should inculcate his values in our life," added Lobo.
In his concluding remarks, Lobo said the principles of Narayan Guru will help us to get rid of differences we see in terms of religion, caste existing in the present society.
A century ago, the social conditions was very bad. It is Narayan Guru who brought social reforms in the society, said Naveenchandra D Suvarna.
Brahmashree Narayan Guru is a role model to all youth. If a person wants to achieve something great in life, then he should walk on the path shown by the saint, he said stating Narayan Guru as a guru for people of all community and not just Billawas.
Dr Vasanth Kumar, college principal welcomed the gathering while Shakila Raj delivered the vote of thanks.
