BJP against screening of 'Madras Cafe' in Mumbai

Mumbai, Aug 22 (PTI): Opposing screening of 'Madras Cafe', in Mumbai for allegedly portraying the outlawed LTTE in bad light, the BJP on Wednesday warned that its activists would take to streets if the film was screened.

"The film with John Abraham in leading role, has a negative portrayal of LTTE chief V Prabhakaran. The movie deals with the Rajiv Gandhi assassination and mentions Tamil organisations as terror outfits," Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar said here.

Tamil organisations have opposed the movie and have called for a countrywide ban on it, he said.

"Several Tamil brethren live in Mumbai as it is the country's financial capital. Many organisations have registered their opposition to the film, with the BJP. It is felt that there will be social discord if the film is allowed to be shown here," Shelar said.

If the state government fails to stop the screening of the film, BJP workers would take to streets and protest at the cinema halls, he said.

'Madras Cafe', directed by Shoojit Sircar, is a spy thriller set in the early 1990s amid the civil war between the Tamil tigers and Sri Lankan regime and is set for release on August 23.

    Once a movie is passed by our Censor Board, no one should have any right to ban the movie. We need to put a ban to these type of bans.

    BJP is slowly loosing it's credibility by doing such nonsense. Whole world knows that LTTE is a terrorist organisation and they are responsible for the assassination of our beloved leader Rajiv Gandhi. At least, they could have kept quiet at this moment.

    The Sangh Parivar is scared that they will be exposed for their pseudo-patriotism.
    When different professional forces of the government were involved in evacuating lakhs of stranded pilgrims in Uttarakhand, the Sangh Parivar including Modi and Baba Ramdev falsely claimed that they did the major evacuation exercise and the food distribution to the stranded. At any given point these Sangh Parivar agents exploit religion for their own benefits.
    In Karnataka the BJP Govt exploited religion and created dozens of religious organisations and dispersed huge fund to promote the temples for their vote base. They forgot that only the development of the state will bring revenue for its entire citizen including the rural poor.

    I just can't control my laugh reading this article. People who support a terrorist group like LTTE are the one's protesting it. Prabakaran was a terrorist only, there is no doubt about it.This movie will put a limelight on who this LTTE terrorist Prabakaran was. So why protest???? Is BJP supporting terrorists.Oh yes!!! they are terrors in one way to the nation.

    What a horrible state of mind BJP has? Just to enter and please the tamils they are stooping to such a low level. Whatever sympathy the tamils had for LTTE vanished when they assacinated Mr Rajive Gandhi. For all the support and sympathy given to LTTE, they repaid with such horrible act against India. After loosing support from India the LTTE was wiped off from Srilanka. To that org the BJP is supporting.
