Kasargod, Aug 20: In a tragic incident a family of four died in a fire at their residence near Cherupuzha in Kannur at 2 am on Monday August 19.
Saji (42) a carpenter by profession, wife Sindhu (31) and their two children Adhira (10) and Athulya (5)were killed in the fire. A case of mass suicide has been suspected.
When locals heard the sound of a blast, they rushed to the spot. Police and the fire brigade officials were informed.
Four bodies were found in a room compeletely charred and the police suspect it to be a suicide case as they found all the people in a single room. Adding to this the stink and the prescence of kerosene and petrol cans were found outside the house.
Police sources suspect that Saji may have given poison to his wife and children after which he set the house on fire. The exact cause of the incident will be obtained only after further investigation.
Rahul R Nair, Kannur SP visited the spot. The bodies have been shifted to the Pariyaram medical college hospital.
A case has been registered at the Cherupoya police station.
