After the murder, Ratnavati had filed a missing complaint about her husband in Subramanya police station, it is learnt.
However, suspecting foul play, Hariyappa Gowda’s brother Chidanand and his wife Varija told the higher police officials that Hariyappa had not gone missing, and that they suspected murder. They urged the police to investigate the case thoroughly.
Pertaining to the case, initially police had detained Hariyappa’s wife and her paramour for questioning after which the murder came to light.
As per the information obtained, Ratnavati and her illicit partner Sunder had planned to kill Hariyappa as he was against their relationship. Hence, Sunder took Hariyappa for hunting after making him consume alcohol and then shot him.
After killing him, he threw the body to Kumaradhara river. The gun was hidden by Ratnavati in a cow shed.
The two accused were produced before Sullia judge and sent to judicial custody.
It is learnt that the accused had also created a fake death certificate wherein they mentioned that Hariyappa committed suicide as he was in debt. The fake death certificate reached the hands of Sullia inspector Sudarshan after which the entire episode became clear.
Ratnavati has two sons and a daughter from Hariyappa. The elder son is studying in class 8, second son in class 4 while the girl is just four years old. Currently, the children are staying at her aunt's house.
Sunder is also married and has two children.
Sullia and Subramanya police investigated and arrested the accused in a joint operation.
