Kundapur: Provide land, not liquor to Dalits, say protestors to govt

Kundapur, Aug 19: "Dalits do not want liquor. Provide land that is due to them instead. Make sure that their basic necessities are met," said leaders and members of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti during a protest held here on Monday August 19 to press their demands.
They also took out a rally from Shastri circle to the taluk office and submitted a memorandum to the tahsildar in this regard.
"The government is all out to supply cheaper liquor to the Dalits. Dalits do not need liquor. Provide them basic needs instead of liquor," said the protestors.
A memorandum consisting of ten demands was submitted to the tahsildar after the protest. The demands included release of land allotted by the D C, handing over ownership papers to the families living in Halliberu gram, distributionof government land at Mudoor gram’s Hindugana among the Dalits, filling of 12,000 backlog vacancies, fulfilling of basic needs in scheduled caste and tribe colonies, action to stop misuse of 20% funds at panchayat levels, handing over of ownership papers to residents of Janatha houses etc.
K Narayana Rao, district convener of the organization, Vasudeva Mudoor, district administrative convener, Jagadish K, S G Ganesh, Rama Naik, Udya Marathe, K Ananda, G K Chandra, treasurer S Ganapathi, Jadkal’s A K Kurien, Kolluru Car Street’s Purushotham Joyisa and Hallihole Ananda Naik led the prtotest.
Tahsildar Gayatri Nayak who accepted the memorandum promised to scrutinize it carefully and take action.
