Udupi: Bride-to-be goes missing, mother commits suicide

Udupi, Aug 19: A woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping into well after she learnt that her daughter, who was to be married, had gone missing.

The incident took place in Perdoor under Hiriyadka police station limits.

The missing girl has been identified as Bharathi (20), daughter of the late Devanna Nayak. Her mother Revathi (48) reportedly committed suicide.

Bharathi was engaged and her wedding was fixed for September 8. She went to Perdur temple on August 17 morning accompanied by her mother and brother. Later at around 7 pm, Bharathi left the house without being noticed by anyone, the complaint stated.

Saddened by the incident, Bharathi’s mother Revathi committed suicide by jumping into the well on August 18.

The wedding date was fixed by Revathi after discussing it with her daughter. Wedding invitations had already been distributed to a few people.

In addition, Bharathi also took away the gold jewellery from the house, it is learnt.

Based on the statement given by the deceased woman's son Rupesh Nayak, Hiriyadka police have registered a case.

    We should blame our education system for this kind of menace.Teachers in Schools have no time or interest to teach moral science to the students because they are less paid in private schools or due to over workload in govt schools for shortage of teachers. Govt.spending huge money for advertiment and Bisiyoota but not for quality of the education. Parents are busy in searching prestigious school for their childrenl not for the quality of education.

    what has here School to do?Even uneducated do the same when they want to goaway.Here the Girl has gone too far.we dont know whether the marraige was fixed with or without Girls concession.May be Girl was not ready with this Arrangement.Here she could have bold enough to say no if she didnt want.instead a tragedy .mother must have realized late and could not face the Scandal and saw only one way out.

    Suicide, running from house at mid night without notice to their elders with another boy is common now a days. We all communities (Muslims, Hindu and Christian)get together to fought against this crime because one parents how they makes efforts to grow their children from child hood to young, when they become young they are ignoring their parents and feel with LOVE and ultimately they are suffering and responsible to bring bad name to their parents and family, some little good children also there in society they obey their parents and brings happiness and good name in the society.

    Many of today's youngster's take their own decision and do not want to sacrifice their love or decision for parents sake. They never think about their parents. Parents, scarifies their whole life to bring up their child and at the end they get this result. In the above case also same. Revathi thought of suicide as she cannot face the world as her daughter ran away from the house and the planned wedding.

    Bharati's action and the consequence which followed it will surely torment her life long. It is better to think twice before we act.

    Very sad incident indeed. May Revathi's soul RIP.
    Every parents has so much dreams about their childrens marriage especially daughters. Now all her dream shuttered because of her daughter when she elope with someone(s). In conservative family this is very difficult to face questions from grooms family and relatives. So she took this exterme step. Now her son became orphan. Don't know how old he is and feel pity for him. God bless him.
