Doctor stabbed in Kanpur hospital


Lucknow, Aug 16 (IANS): A government doctor was stabbed in Kanpur Friday when he was parking his car in the hospital premises, police said.

The doctor, posted as a surgeon at the Ursula hospital, was parking his car when an unknown assailant attacked him from behind.

As the doctor tried to save himself, he was injured on his left elbow and his fingers were slashed.

V.K. Singh told police officials that he did not recognize the assailant and did not have any animosity with anyone.

R.K. Chaturvedi, deputy inspector general of police (DIG) Kanpur, told IANS that based on the requests of doctors, security has been stepped up at the hospital.

"Though 11 private security guards are posted there, we have reviewed security arrangements in view of this attack and additional policemen will be posted there now," he added.

A case has been registered.
