Pakistani troops fire again on Kashmir border

Jammu, Aug 15 (IANS): Pakistani troops again violated the ceasefire and fired at Indian posts on the Jammu and Kashmir border, an army spokesman said Thursday.

The firing -- and Indian retaliation -- took place in Mendhar sector on the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch from 12.10 a.m. till 1 a.m. Wednesday, the spokesman told IANS.

The Pakistanis used small and light automatic weapons, medium machine guns and mortars.

"Our troops responded in the same manner," the spokesman said.

The Indian Army had noticed suspicious movement in Poonch along the LoC, which divides Jammu and Kashmir between India and Pakistan.

India has blamed Pakistan for frequent violation of the 2003 ceasefire along the LoC and the international border in Jammu and Kashmir.

Five Indian soldiers were killed Aug 6 when Pakistani troops sneaked into Poonch region and ambushed an army patrol before escaping.
