Mandya, Aug 12: Actress-politician Ramya, who is contesting on Congress ticket, launched her campaign here on Monday August 12 on an emotional note.
With just about 9 days to go for the by-poll, the actress began her campaign by offering puja at a temple.
Ramya, who lost her guardian R T Narayan recently, turned emotional while campaigning, and even shed tears during the road show.
Clad in a red sari, Ramya went about campaigning in an open jeep accompanied by veteran Sandalwood actor-turned-politician Ambareesh accompanying her.
The Congress also inaugurated its election office on the occasion.
Hundreds of Congress workers and supporters gathered on the streets to greet Ramya.
Ramya filed her nomination on August 3. She is pitted against former legislator C S Puttaraju of JD(S).
Chief minister Siddaramaiah and other Congress leaders are expected to campaign for Ramya.
The elections, a matter of prestige for both Congress and the JD(S), will be held on August 21. The BJP, meanwhile, has decided to back JD(S) against Congress. Lok Sabha by-poll is also being held for Bangalore Rural on the same day.
