Goa Police not nailing drug stockists: BJP

Panaji, Aug 12 (IANS): Police in Goa are not going after big-volume stockists of narcotics and drugs but are nailing only the small fry, a ruling BJP legislator said here Monday.

"Police need to do more. They are not going after the main stockists who stock drugs," Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Michael Lobo told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting between Goa's small scale industry and government representatives in the capital.

Michael said he had given a list of drug dealers operating from his constituency to the director general of police last month, but the police action, he said, was not satisfactory.

"I had given them the names of main drug dealers but all they got were 12 gm of drugs and some syringes," Lobo said.

Lobo is from the Calangute assembly constituency in north Goa, 20 km from here. Calangute is one of the most popular tourism destinations in the state and is also known as a drug trade hub.
