Bantwal: Omni accident - Temple offering box saves the day

Bantwal, Aug 12: In a dramatic incident, a Maruti Omni lost control and moved over the offering box of a temple situated beside the road near Vittal here on Sunday August 11.

Somashekar Shetty (47), who was driving the Omni, and his son Pushparaj (9), residents of Kolnad in Koppal were injured.

Somashekar and Pushparaj were on their way home from Vittal when the accident took place.

When they reached a curve on the Vittal-Salettur road at Kodangai, the Omni developed a technical glitch and went out of control. The car rolled over and moved on the offering box on the side of the road, and came to a halt.

Pushparaj was thrown off the car and Somashekar too sustained injuries. Locals said that if the offering box had not been there, the tragedy would have been worse.

The injured have been admitted to hospital in Puttur.

    Tulunadu is having highest number of Temples which not only contain Kaanike Dabbas inside the Temple, but even on Road-side also these Kaanike Dabbas have sprouted. It is said that shortage of Coins in our Coastal districts is mainly because of these "Coin Swallowers" all over the place. As per an estimate more than TEN lakh coins of different denominations are resting at the bottom of Kanike Dabbis at any given time.

    Kanike Offering Boxes in Temples are opened once in 3 months. In some temples it is opened once in a year. So, coins hiding in these temple boxes may be much more than estimated.
    All Temples should open their Offering Boxes once in WEEK and deposit the collections in Banks same day. This will help to circulate Coins and mitigate shortages. Collections in Kukke Temple in May month alone exceeded 2.50 crore mainly coins as per their official press release.

    Better the vehicle keep d before using on road,otherwise these unexpected technicals snags will take the life of the passengers for no reason.Better checking th vehicles in random may be introduced to bring awareness and stop this type of vehicles on road.Thanq.
