Goa: Our Lady of Rosary HSS excels in poster competition

Goa, Aug 12: Our Lady of Rosary Higher Secondary School, Donapaula (Mavis Rodrigues, Roseann Vaz and Richa Srivastava) secured first place in the poster competition organized by the Emmaus Counselling Centre of the Carmelite Fathers Mapusa at the centre. They depicted their creative ideas on the theme ‘Gender equality: awareness and sensitization’.

The creative process involved in artistic self-expression helps people to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, and achieve insight. With an aim to encourage vibrancy and creativity among young adolescents, the Emmaus Counseling Centre as a part of ninth anniversary celebration of its establishment organized a poster competition for students of various higher secondary schools across Goa.

Students exhibited their talents through art in a way that was visual, inclusive and fun. An enriching display of current states of knowledge of psychological concerns, expectations and visions were a highlight of the creative posters by the young minds.

The second place went to a poster on Is the world safe and secure one today? prepared by Vignesh Usapkar, Saish Naik and Prathamesh Palkar of Bhumika Higher Secondary School, Parye, Sattari and the third place was bagged by Smitha Correa, Gauri Halankar and Zena Mendes St Thomas Higher Secondary School, Aldona on the theme ‘The world today: An Adolescent perspective’. The works created were unique and expressed the innovative and creative ideas of the young participants.

Br Malvino Alfonso OCD, coordinator, Emmaus Counseling Centre welcomed the gathering and explained the importance of expressive arts.

The panel of judges included professor Tina D’cunha, (clinical psychologist), Lenin Nunes (fine art) and Fr Ajith Rodrigues OCD (counselor and psychologist).
   
Prizes and certificates were distributed by Fr Diogo Proenca, director, Emmaus.

The organizers expressed their gratitude to the participants along with the institution heads and faculty members for being an enthusiastic part of the event.
