Mangalore, Aug 12: A youth from Mysore drowned at Someshwar beach here on Sunday August 11.
The deceased has been identified as Baaba (23), son of Athavulla, resident of Periyapatna in Mysore.
Baaba along with his friends Zuhir, Saddam, Haris came to Mangalore for picnic on the occasion of Eid.
The group first visited Ullal Dargah and then went to the beach. As the sea was rough, lifeguard Ashok Someshwar warned them not to venture into the sea.
However, they escaped from the lifeguard’s sight and went to swim near Vombathu Kere Muda site, where one of them was swept away.
The other three members of the group rushed to Ashok and informed him. But their efforts to locate the youth went in vain.
Ashok asked the youths to report the matter to Ullal police station, but they fled from the place and went towards Hassan.
They informed their family members and then arrived at Ullal police station on Monday August 12 morning.
Baaba was the eldest among the three daughters and two sons of Athavulla. He was working as two-wheeler mechanic and was the bread-winner of the family.
