Doha: AI Express - Pay QR 50 for additional 10 kg baggage
Media Release
Doha, Aug 12: Air India Express, presently, provides passengers with free baggage allowance (FBA) of 20 kg for flights operating out of India and 30 kg for flights operating into India. Due to higher FBA on flights operating into India, the saleable seat capacity is reduced in line with payload constraints.
In keeping with recent industry trends especially in the LCC market, it has been decided to reduce the free baggage allowance on flights operating into India, from 30 to 20 kg per passenger, which is the present FBA on flights operating out of India.
This will be applicable to tickets booked on or after August 22, 2013.
In the recent past, many airlines including Air India have reduced the FBA. Some of the LCC competitors, like Air Arabia and Air Asia, do not provide any FBA, and charge for all checked in baggage.
All passengers of Air India Express who get their tickets issued on or after August 22 from any part of Gulf to India will have the option to carry an additional 10 kg of check in baggage, that is, 20 kg plus additional 10 kg by paying a nominal amount of QAR 50.
Passengers and travel agents will be provided the facility to book the additional allowance through the system while booking the ticket or subsequently.
Passengers ticketed prior to August 22, 2013 will continue to be entitled to 30 kg FBA, as reflected on their itinerary receipt, irrespective of the date of travel.
