Indian shot dead in Philippines

Singapore, Aug 10 (IANS): An Indian man was shot dead in Davao City in the Philippines, becoming the latest victim of a spate of shooting incidents in the city.

The body of 30-year-old Ramandeep Singh Gill, who hailed from Punjab, was found early Friday morning at Old Emars Beach Resort in the city, the Sun Star reported Saturday.

According to local residents, they heard a gun shot at around 3.30 a.m. and later found Gill's body lying in a pool of blood around 8 a.m.

Local police, who rushed to the spot, found no empty shell or bullet but found a .357 revolver one metre away from the body of the victim.

Local police suspect that either it might be a past grudge that led to the killing or the victim might have tried to resist a robbery bid.

Davao City is on Mindanao island and is the largest city in the Philippines by land area.

The city has been witness to a spate of shooting incidents in recent times and Gill became the 38th casualty, according to the report.
