Goa BJP endorses dance bars

Panaji, Aug 9 (IANS): The BJP's Goa unit vice president Wilfred Mesquita said here Friday that there was nothing wrong in having dance bars in the state.

"If alcohol is allowed to flow in the gutters of Goa, I don't see why anyone has a problem against dance bars," Mesquita told reporters at a press conference at the party's state headquarters in Panaji.

Mesquita's comments come at a time when Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said dance bars would be denied excise licences, which are mandatory to serve liquor.

Mesquita added that if the Supreme Court had decided in favour of dance bars, how could anyone oppose them. "What's wrong with dance bars now," asked Mesquita, also the official spokesperson of the BJP's Goa unit.
