Mangalore, Aug 9: "A Congress manifesto implementation committee has been set up, chaired by union defence minister A K Antony as the president and all the leaders including the chief minister as it members. The commitee has been formed with an intention to fulfill the promises made by Congress during the Assembly elections," said former union minister Janardhan Poojary.
Addressing the media at district Congress office here on Friday August 9, Poojary said, "Due to arecanut diseases, many growers are facing lot of problems. Hence, through this manifesto implementation committee, we will ask the government to clear off their debt."
"In addition, we will also see to it that the rule requiring minimum 10 cents of land to build a house is scraped. All the promises we made will be fulfilled in a span of 5 years as we cannot do it one year alone," he clarified.
Commenting on the proposed Niddodi project, Poojary said it is the child of BJP and that the Congress is going ahead with it with a good intention. "Our government has agreed as we have given importance to solving electricity problem," he said.
However, he added, "Though the government's intention is good, the effect on environment and people is high. Hence we strongly oppose the project as it is our duty to respond to people’s problems. I will also ask the chief minister to drop this plan," he added.
About reports of a pact between the JD(S) and the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha by-polls in Mandya and Bangalore Rural, Poojary questioned the intentions of JD(S) and said, "JD(S) has never spoken truth. By joining hands with the BJP, they have proved that only power is important to them," he said.
During the press meet, while interacting with the media, a representative from the media questioned Poojary on the Niddodi issue. Poojary evaded the question which prompted the person to walk out from the press meet.
Party leaders Deepak Poojary, Radhakrishna, Naveen D’Souza, Shashidar Hegde, Lancelot Pinto, and T K Sudheer among others were present.
