Goa, Aug 9: Union minister of state for tourism (independent charge) Dr K Chiranjeevi informed Shantaram Naik, MP in Rajya Sabha in a written reply that ministry of tourism had sanctioned eight projects for Rs 77.90 crore during 11th Five Year Plan and two projects for Rs 0.50 crore during the year 2012-13 to the state of Goa.
The minister further informed Naik that the ministry of tourism granted Central Finance Assistance (CFA) in the tune of Rs 5 crore and Rs 8 crore for the development of destinations and circuits respectively and Rs 25 crore and Rs 50 crore for the development of mega destinations and mega circuits respectively to the state governments/union territory administrations under its scheme ‘Project/Infrastructure Development for Destinations and Circuits (PIDDC)’.
However, the development and promotion of tourism infrastructure projects are primarily the responsibility of the state governments/union territory (UT) administrations. Ministry of tourism provides central financial assistance for the tourism projects including Goa, identified during the prioritization meetings held at the beginning of every financial year in consultation with them, subject to adherence to scheme guidelines, inter-se priority and availability of funds, the minister said.
The minister further informed Naik that the list of projects prioritized during the current financial year 2013-14, are, under LRG project- golf course and luxury cruise, under mega circuit- Candolim and Calangute circuit development, under destination development- tourism development in Vasco, under circuit development- Colvale tourism circuit development, Miramar Tourism circuit development, tourism circuit development heritage and coastal areas by helicopter connectivity and under fairs / festivals, goa carnival and celebration of Shigmo festival.
